Leonard Bruton, President - NCBAA-SO Greetings!
As the newly elected Chair of the Southern Regional Board of the National Chapter on Black American Affairs, I welcome you to our Website. As a regional representative of the National Council on Black American Affairs (NCBAA) and as an affiliate of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), the Southern Region is comprised of the following states: Alabama, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Tennessee, and Virginia. Although these states make up the Southern Region, every state does not currently have a local chapter. One of my goals as regional president is to encourage and support the formation of local chapters in those states that are currently unorganized.

What do we do? Collectively, the Southern Region serves as a voice in promoting the academic and professional development of faculty, staff, and administrators within the community college system represented by member states. Structurally, the National Council on Black American Affairs (NCBAA) and the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) serve as umbrella organizations for the Southern Region. The Southern Region, therefore, is your "voice" in communicating issues and concerns as they relate to the academic and professional development of community college faculty, staff, and administrators. It is to your advantage, then, to organize and to charter a local state chapter so that your institution will be able to participate in this collaborative, regional effort. How can you participate? If your institution does not currently have a chapter, and you would like to start one, please contact me at brutonl@pbcc.edu or you may also contact one of our Board members for assistance. The process is not a difficult one—if you have individuals who are committed to establishing a chapter, we can help. Reach out to your colleagues in other community colleges in your state and organize to charter a chapter. We can help!

I encourage you to visit our Website often to continue to learn out us, our activities and our initiatives. We need your participation; we welcome your voice! If you have questions about the National Chapter on Black American Affairs – Southern Region (NCBAA – SO), please do not hesitate to be in touch with me or with one of my Board members. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Leonard Bruton
